| Teaching Children Not to Be Bully | It is extremely important to teach children that bullying is wrong at early age. Nevertheless, it is never too late to instruct against bullying when it is noticed. Lots of children have been bullied before they even go into school. The accidents at the home may assure children that bullying is ok.
In actual fact, the teacher maybe the only hope some children have of learning that bullying is not all right. Having an anti bullying game plan before hand is vital. As a teacher there are many resources about bullying and the effects of bullying that you can use, or you may develop your own anti bullying plan.
There are several different types of anti bullying plans for each level of children. It seems that younger children relate well to puppet shows that can demonstrate them that bullying is wrong and dangerous. Older children will learn with surveys that will first teach them just what constitutes bullying first then asks them if they have ever been a bully to others or to suggest other students who they have observed bullying someone.
There have been studies that have demonstrated that bullying has resulted in school rampages and shootings. The other negative effects that it has had on others may not be so observable but could lead to depression, withdrawal, and even suicide. It has never been more important to put into practice anti bullying teachings in the classroom as it is today.
If your school has an anti bullying support group you could use that as a resource and have some of the members speak to the class about bullying and the negative effects that it has. If there is not an anti bullying support group you might think about creating one.
