Some scientists think that suicide has biology aspect. It is supposed that teens, which tend to commit suicide, have a genetic component. Research has shown strong evidence that mental and substance-related disorders do run in families. Previous suicide in the family is not a direct cause of suicide, but it put certain individuals at more risk than others. Certainly, the suicide of one close family member could lead to thoughts of such behavior in a teenager with a mental or substance-related disorder.

Scientists have proved that the specific brain chemistry resides those who takes their own lives. Recent studies has also explored that those who have attempted suicide may have low level of the brain chemical serotonin. Serotonin regulates impulsivity, and its low level causes more impulsive behavior. Suicides are often committed as a result of impulse. Antidepressant drugs are used to treat depression, suicidal thoughts, and impulsivity.
