Two types of teen camps exist: boot camps and summer or wilderness camps. As a rule they go on from one to six weeks, and at the same time as teens may shows symptoms of development for days or even weeks after returning home, they often relapse back to old behaviors after the fright of power disappears.

Boot camps are military-style facilities. They use discipline, military exercises, rigorous physical training, and factor of power to change a troubled teen into a “good soldier” who follows rules. Unluckily, most boot camps do not take in hand emotional or behavioral issues.

Without therapy or behavior change, long-term efficiency is restricted. If parents do prefer to send their troubled teen to a boot camp, the best chance for long-term achievement is to follow it with a treatment program.

Traditionally wilderness camps are seen as an alternative to boot camps. In place of the aggressive methods that boot camps use, wilderness camps are more likely to be behavior modification programs with a part of the program held outdoors. They take away urban distractions so troubled teens can reconnect accept responsibility for their choices.

Because these wilderness camps are usually held in summer, they may not take in an academic part. There are a few that do, though, which is particularly significant for teens who have fallen behind during the school year.

The biggest advantage to wilderness camps as different from boot camps is that they often offer substance abuse treatment for troubled teens. Once more, because wilderness camps frequently only continue for one to six weeks, the best chance for long-term success is to follow it with a treatment program.
